Very thought provoking and true assessment and I have been on the receiving end. When it happened to me I thought back to my Shakespeare:

Caesar:
"Et tu, Brute?"

Julius Caesar (III, i, 77)
Perhaps the most famous three words uttered in literature, "Et tu, Brute?" (Even you, Brutus?) this expression has come down in history to mean the ultimate betrayal by one's closest friend. This scene, in which the conspirators in the Senate assassinate Caesar, is one of the most dramatic moments on the Shakespearean stage. The audience has just witnessed the arrogance and hubris of a ruler who has sought, within a republic, to become a monarch, comparing himself to the gods. Brutus, a friend of Caesar and yet a man who loves Rome (and freedom) more, has joined the conspirators in the assassination, a betrayal which is captured by the three words above.

Amen to who you call "friends" at work! Learned that lesson the hard way. That's why now I work for myself! Great Post!

Martha: I too work out of home and I love what I do including BLOGGING. The time I spend with my dogs and wife is more precious to me and I can do the little things around the house that make her happy like making dinner and cleaning the coffee pot.

I'm a work-at-home entrepreneur and there are so many things I love about my work that I hardly know where to begin. The flexibility and the ability to do things "my way" are both number 1. Plus, every time I work with a client and they have a "light bulb" moment, the gratification is like no other! And of course, I DO like the money! Great post!

These are great points. It's especially important that you're not only working for the money, but you like what you're doing.

Roberta: We spend too much time at work to just let be a four letter word. I have jobs where I could not wait to get to work and I know that there are still jobs like that out there.

Lets get it straight - work is a four letter word.
We need to learn that we get paid for rendering a service. The more we love rendering that service, the more we love what we do to pay for all those lovely things we want to enjoy.
So look for where you can add value, where you will help the most people and where you know that you will be acknowledged, appreciated and accepted. Work for the fun of work and you will always love your work

Roy: I agree with you. There have been way too many times where I had to get other people's permission to do things that did not effect their areas. When you need others to get approval for your decisions in a group setting you're often headed for trouble as a company

I am not sure that group decisions are the best decisions. They may work at times, but, more often than not, they do not serve the best organizational purpose. There are too many vested interests that get incorporated in that fashion.

Kristoffer: I could not agree more. It takes a lot of courage to be a Linchpin and too many organizations, when people try to change things, ding people on their reviews as not being team players. Still I would rather be an innovator and Linchpin that go through the day looking at the clock waiting for quitting time.
